The Women Empowerment Climate Adaptation Nexus (WECAN) is a grass root grants Project of the Water Justice Fund supporting women-led organizations and groups organized in water, sanitation and hygiene and climate change adaptation in Kajiado County. The Project also focuses on strengthening the capacity of women and girls in the last mile and in climate vulnerable contexts, to amplify their voice, participate and take leadership in advancing their human rights to water and sanitation.
The Fund is a Simavi flagship programme implemented by: Uttaran – Bangladesh, Neighbours Initiative Alliance (NIA) – Kajiado, Kenya and Sahakarmi Samaj (SS)–Nepal for a period of 12 months as a pilot (January to December 2023).
Our target: is women-led groups and WASH clubs focused on livelihood enhancement through water, sanitation, hygiene and climate change adaptation.
NIA in partnership with SIMAVI launched the Water Justice Fund programme in Kajiado with 6 women groups receiving 93 water tanks to easen their burden towards water access. The groups also received grants to implement innovative climate resilient interventions in their communities.
